The popular, nine-week Take-Off Fridays celebration continues at YVR, which transforms the airport into a family-friendly destination every Friday until August 31.
The free in-terminal party – which happens both before and after security – includes two daily performances by the Underground Circus, three daily performances by local musicians, five DJs, roving mascots, a face painter, a caricaturist and a balloon twister, emergency response demonstrations, free samples, lunch specials and more.
And August 17 brings a Take-off Friday like never before, with YVR’s first Japadog Eating Contest, happening from 12:30 to 1 p.m. at The Spirit of Haida Gwaii, The Jade Canoe, International Terminal, Level 3. Six contestants will have the chance to win big prizes – and even bigger bragging rights – as part of the contest.
Vancouver Aquarium’s popular AquaVan also visits YVR on August 17 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at The Spirit of Haida Gwaii, The Jade Canoe. The interactive, family-friendly exhibit allows visitors the opportunity to touch a sea star and its many wonders, understand how a barnacle feeds, observe a hermit crab up close and discover the connections among animals, environments and ourselves.
And on August 31, author Rick Antonson will be at Virgin Books & Music, before-security in the Domestic Terminal, Level 3, between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., to sign his new book Route 66 Still Kicks.
