Vancouver Airport Authority invites the community to join in a special send-off for members of Special Olympics British Columbia’s Team BC 2012 on February 27, when it heads to the 2012 Special Olympics Canada Winter Games in Alberta.
Team BC – comprised of 109 athletes and 34 volunteer coaches – will compete in seven winter sports February 28 to March 3. St. Albert will host six of the sports: curling, cross-country skiing, figure skating, floor hockey, snowshoeing and speed skating. The Marmot Basin ski resort in Jasper National Park will host alpine skiing. Both communities will be in the nation’s spotlight, with the focus on St. Albert—official host of the Games.
Families, sponsors and supporters of Team BC are encouraged to visit the Public Observation Area, located in the Domestic Terminal, on February 27 between 8:30 and 11:30 a.m. to sign a banner with their well-wishes, and meet some the Team BC athletes.
