Vancouver Airport Authority is paying it forward Olympics-style by sharing its knowledge and lessons learned from the 2010 Olympic Winter Games with Heathrow Airport, which will host millions of visitors and 80 per cent of the Olympic and Paralympic Family during the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Earlier this year, YVR’s Vice President of Operations, Steve Hankinson (who was Director, Customer Care and Security during the 2010 Games), visited London to pass on some tips, tools and techniques that helped YVR rally its employees together to turn in a gold-medal performance.
This included YVR’s intense focus on planning and practice and its strategy to build and nurture relationships, encourage innovation and excitement and recognize team achievements.
YVR’s Director of Communications, Rebecca Catley, also recently returned from London, where she passed on logistical information about how to manage hundreds of on-site media while balancing each outlet’s individual objectives. She also shared strategy and implementation information related to YVR’s media campaign, Farewell to the World, in which key messages about travelling through YVR on its busiest day ever – March 1, 2010 – were disseminated to a variety of audiences through media coverage.
