Vancouver International Airport is the first U.S. preclearance airport to have operational U.S. Global Entry kiosks. The U.S. Global Entry kiosks are available for persons registered in the Global Entry program or NEXUS members, and are departing from YVR via U.S. preclearance.
Global Entry is a U.S. Customs and Border Protection trusted traveller program that allows pre-approved members an alternative to regular passport processing lines. The program currently reduces average wait times by 70 per cent while maintaining and enhancing security.
All NEXUS members have access to Global Entry but must meet certain criteria: their full 10 fingerprints must be on file with the NEXUS enrollment office and they must have a valid U.S. entry document on file with NEXUS (e.g. passport, visa, etc.).
Eligible kiosk users do not require a completed U.S. declaration card. Users will have their passport read by the machine and their photograph taken before they are asked a series of questions on screen. Upon completion, the kiosk will issue a receipt which is then handed to a U.S. Customs and Border Protection officer.
Other preclearance airports will roll out kiosks in the coming weeks and months. For more information about Global Entry, visit the Canadian Border Services Agency website.
